Additive Manufacturing

Additive Manufacturing for RF and Sensing Systems

Our group pioneers novel additive manufacturing (AM) techniques — including Laser-Enhanced Direct Print (LE-DPAM) and aerosol jet printing — to fabricate high-frequency electronics, 3D hybrid IC packaging, and structurally embedded RF systems. Applications span mm-wave phased arrays, advanced packaging for GaAs/MEMS oscillators, and Physically Unclonable Functions (PUFs) for hardware security.

RF/Microwave Circuits and Antennas

RF/Microwave Circuits and Antennas

We design and characterize RF/microwave and mm-wave circuits, phased-array antennas, reconfigurable metasurfaces, and front-end transceivers for communications, radar, and sensing. Research includes beamforming networks, antenna-in-package solutions, and integrated front-ends for 5G and next-generation wireless systems.

Thermal Management research

Thermal Management in High-Frequency Microsystems

Thermal co-design is critical for high-frequency electronics. Our work investigates graphene-based composites, reduced graphene oxide (rGO), and novel substrate materials for heat dissipation in RF packages, MEMS devices, and heterogeneous integrated systems — directly addressing the performance limits imposed by thermal constraints in dense, high-power electronics.

MEMS resonator device

MEMS/NEMS Transducers and Resonators

We develop micromachined resonators, filters, and transducers leveraging piezoelectric (ZnO, AlN), capacitive, and hybrid actuation mechanisms. Devices include contour-mode resonators, bulk acoustic wave (BAW) filters, piezoelectric micromachined ultrasonic transducers (pMUTs), and MEMS oscillators targeting RF communications and precision sensing applications.

Microfluidics and Biosensors research

Microfluidics and Biosensors

We create MEMS-based biosensors and microfluidic platforms for biomedical applications, including wireless implantable intraocular pressure (IOP) sensors for glaucoma monitoring, hydrogel-based actuator systems for cancer cell investigation, and lab-on-chip microfluidic devices for biological assays — bridging RF/MEMS expertise with critical healthcare challenges.

Nanomaterials

Nanomaterials and Nanodevices

Our research synthesizes and characterizes functional nanomaterials — including ZnO nanostructures, carbon nanotubes, graphene, and polymer nanocomposites — for applications in magneto-dielectric RF substrates, thermal management coatings, and nanodevices. These materials underpin next-generation electronic and sensing platforms.
